How it gets described on the phone
- Water left standing in the sump when the cycle has finished
- Programme stopping partway with the panel lit and nothing turning
- Film on glassware that wipes away wet and comes back every wash
- Hum or grind from under the tub with no water moving through the arms
What gets tested on the visit
- Sump, filter and drain path cleared and inspected before any pump is condemned
- Drain pump and circulation pump tested for winding resistance and for actual flow
- Inlet valve and fill volume timed across a complete cycle
- Spray arm rotation and jet pattern with the racks out
- Door latch, switch and gasket, since a cycle that stops partway often stops because the door told it to
Standing water at the end of a cycle is a drain problem, and a drain problem is a blockage far more often than it is a pump. The trap, the filter and the hose loop get checked first because they are free to check and they are usually the answer. A pump gets replaced when it has been shown not to move water, not because the machine is not draining.
