West Ridge

Brick bungalows and raised ranches on the streets west of Ridge. Wide kitchens, original cabinetry, and a lot of newer professional equipment dropped into openings that were cut for something narrower.

The recurring fault out here is clearance. A range or a built-in refrigerator dropped into an opening cut for something narrower ends up with no air path to its condenser or no gap at the sides for the door to swing, and both read on the invoice as a failing appliance when they are a fitting problem. The clearances get measured before anything is diagnosed.

  • Everything came out with a film on it whatever cycle we chose. Scale had blocked most of the upper spray arm. He descaled it, cleaned the filter and showed me how to keep on top of it.

  • Top cavity died completely just before the holidays. Element had failed behind the liner. He worked in a very confined cabinet and got it changed without marking the surround at all.

  • One knob turned and the whole top started sparking at once. He explained they share one module before opening anything, replaced it, and tested each position with me standing next to him.
